I figured since I got to share the wonderful story of Katie and Wilfredo last week, I could share our engagement story today. It really is a moment I will never forget.
Mike made reservations for my 25th birthday. I had several moments leading up to my birthday that I thought he might propose. These included a trip to St. Augustine, a U2 Concert, and who knows what else. But, I was not letting my mind go there for my birthday. I wanted to be surprised. When tickets became available for the U2 Concert, he said it was my birthday present. So with dinner and amazing seats for the concert, I really was thinking that was it.
He took me to the California Grill at the top of the Contemporary Resort at Walt Disney World. (This is the hotel the monorail goes through.) Dinner was FANTASTIC!! Filet that you could almost cut with a fork!! You can basically see the castle and fireworks from everywhere in the restaurant. Obviously, some seats are better than others. Well, after dinner, Mike took me outside. He found a quiet place and proceeded to say all this stuff about marriage (I hear nothing because he is reaching into his pocket at this point) and then drops to his knee. He asked me to marry him and I think I said YES right away. As he stood up and we kissed, the fireworks started going off. It was perfect timing and a magical moment.
The photo above was taken before we went to dinner. My roommate had known the plans and convinced me to take pictures for my birthday. Birthdays are a BIG deal to her so it still didn't phase me.
Anyhow, it is still a favorite memory. We try to go back to the California Grill each year for my birthday!
